About Coloured Hornbeam

Coloured Hornbeam is European hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) impregnated with dye through the full cross-section. Because hornbeam is dense and tight-grained, it takes the dye deep into the fibres rather than leaving it on the surface — re-cutting, turning or carving never exposes a pale core.

Each blank measures 40 × 40 × 400 mm and is supplied rough-cut, ready for the lathe, bandsaw or carving bench. Plane, sand or finish to your own final dimensions; the colour will not sand or wear away.

Available in five standard colours: Black, Pink / Red, Green, Brown and Yellow. Hornbeam is one of the hardest and densest woods grown in Europe, so the blanks turn and carve cleanly and hold sharp detail.
