Saw Blades for Byrnes Table Saw
The same precision saw blades we use in our own shop to mill the wood you see across Hobbymill.EU. 80-tooth HSS (Dmo5) circular blades for the Byrnes table saw — hollow ground, meaning the body of the blade is thinner than the tooth tips, so the blade clears the kerf cleanly and leaves a glass-smooth cut on hardwoods like boxwood, pear and hornbeam.
About these blades
These are the exact saw blades we use in our own workshop to mill every sheet, strip and square strip you see on Hobbymill.EU. After years of testing different blades on dense hardwoods, this is the one that consistently delivers a clean, near-sanded surface straight off the saw.
Hollow ground means the centre of the blade is ground thinner than the outside, where the teeth are. The kerf is cut by the tooth tips, and the thinner body has clearance through that kerf — so the blade doesn't rub, stays cooler and straighter, and removes burn marks. That difference is most obvious on Swiss pear, which scorches easily with a flat blade. The result is a smoother cut face and a thinner, more accurate slice — which matters when you're milling 0.6 mm sheets or 3 mm strips.
Which thickness to choose. The 80×1.2 mm blade is the one for thicker stock — it is at home cutting 6–7 mm and up. With a good feed rate and a properly set up saw it will also handle thinner parts, but it is not the blade for very thin sheets. The 80×0.8 mm blade is our everyday blade: it works really well up to 5–6 mm, and above that you need to drop the feed speed considerably.
Fence setup. We recommend leaving a small clearance on the fence so the cut plank does not get trapped between the fence and the blade. A strip that binds will burn, wander off dimension and can kick — a couple of tenths of clearance keeps every strip free as it leaves the blade.
Both variants are 80T HSS Dmo5, 12.7 mm bore — a direct fit on the Byrnes table saw. The strips in the photos above were cut with the 1.2 mm blade.
