Species we mill for pen turning
Swiss Pear
Warm pinkish-cream with very fine, even grain. Turns effortlessly and takes a soft satin sheen — the classic choice for understated, formal pens.
Castello Boxwood
Pale creamy-yellow, dense and glass-smooth. The finest surface finish of any species we stock; ideal for high-polish and thread-insert work.
Coloured Hornbeam
European hornbeam dyed through the full cross-section in black, red, green, brown or yellow. The colour cannot sand or wear away.
How our blanks are prepared
- Cut from our own kiln-dried stock, never from reclaimed or unseasoned wood.
- Dried to 8–10% moisture content, so blanks stay stable after turning.
- Milled square on all four faces to ±1 mm — no twist, no snipe.
- Sold singly as mixed packs or in packs of five of one species.
- Shipped from the EU, so EU customers pay no import duty or customs handling.
Frequently asked questions
What size are your pen blanks?
Every blank is milled to 19 × 19 × 130 mm, which fits the majority of slim, twist, fountain and rollerball pen kits on the market. Tolerance is ±1 mm on width and thickness.
Are the blanks dry and ready to turn?
Yes. All stock is kiln-dried to 8–10% moisture content and clean-milled on all four faces, so blanks mount straight between centres without further preparation.
Do you ship pen blanks outside the EU?
Yes — we ship worldwide from Tallinn, Estonia. Blanks are light, so postage on a pack of five is modest even to the US, Canada and Australia.
Can I order a custom size or species?
Yes. Tell us the dimensions, species and quantity on the custom order page and we will quote milling from our own stock.
Need a custom size?
We can mill bespoke pen blanks from the same kiln-dried stock. Send the dimensions, species and quantity you need.
