The classic boxwood for carving, woodturning and model making. Pale creamy-yellow with a glass-smooth surface and exceptionally fine, even grain — dense enough to hold knife-edge detail and turn cleanly without tear-out.

Castello Boxwood (Calycophyllum multiflorum) is the modern standard for boxwood lumber in high-end model ship planking, replacing the now-scarce European boxwood. Its pale cream colour and near-invisible grain give a smooth, uniform run where no single piece stands out from the next.
Boxwood is exceptionally dense and stable, so pieces hold their dimensions precisely and bend cleanly around the hull without crushing or splitting at tight curves. The fine grain means edges stay sharp and glue joints sit tight.
